Filters, compare & notes

Filters, compare & notes

Four small controls change what every chart and list shows: the site, the date range, one filter, and the comparison with the period before.

Choosing a site#

The switcher at the top of the sidebar picks one site, or All sites when you have more than one. With all sites selected, visitor and revenue totals are added up across sites. Funnels always work on a single site.

Date ranges#

The date menu in the top bar offers Today, Last 7 days, Last 30 days, Last 90 days, Last 12 months and a Custom range with two dates.

  • “Last N days” includes today. Today is hourly, ranges up to 120 days are daily, longer ranges are monthly.
  • Days start at midnight in the site's time zone, with daylight saving handled.
  • A custom range can span up to two years and ends no later than now.
  • Pulse remembers the last range and site you picked in this browser.

Comparing with the period before#

Every headline number shows its change against the period right before the selected one, with the same length. For a 7-day range that is the 7 days before it; for a custom range it is the same number of days directly earlier. On the chart, switch on Compare with the period before to draw it as a second, lighter line, bucket by bucket.

Filtering#

Click any row in a Sources, Pages, Locations or Devices list, or open Filter in the top bar and pick a value. Everything on the page narrows to it, and a chip shows what is active. Clear it with the cross on the chip. One filter is active at a time.

FilterKeeps visits where…
Pagethe visit viewed that path at least once.
Referrer, Country, Region, City, Browser, OS, Devicethe visit's first hit had that value. Referrer is the host of the referring page.

Filters apply to traffic numbers. Sales and Revenue ignore them, because orders come from your payment provider; those tiles say “All traffic, not filtered” while a filter is on. To see revenue for one source, use the Revenue tab in the Sources panel instead.

Notes#

Notes pin a short label to a day on the Analytics chart, so a spike has a reason: “Posted on Threads”, “Shipped 2.0”.

  • Click Add note under the chart, pick the date, write up to 140 characters, and save. With several sites selected, choose which site it belongs to.
  • Notes show as dots on the chart; hover a dot to read them. Dots show on daily and monthly charts, not on the hourly Today view.
  • Notes belong to a site. They are not part of shared links.

Common issues#

The Filter menu is empty
There is nothing to filter by yet in this range. Widen the date range.
A filter shows zero but I know there is traffic
Filters match the first hit of a visit for everything except Page. A visit that began from another source will not match a Referrer filter.
My custom range ends today and looks cut off
The current day is incomplete. The chart draws it as a partial period.
I cannot find a note I added
Notes only show on daily and monthly views. Switch from Today to a longer range.
